This is a company car so I will not mention price.Good points:This car does everything well. The thing it does best though is eat up the motorway miles. It is such a relaxing car and the 2.2 litre diesel really does pull well. It is one of the first cars I have driven which you can drive 90mph+ and it still feels like you are doing 60 mph. Considering this size of car is probably going to spend a lot of time on the motorway this is a definite plus. Toyota reliability does also not disappoint. While this car definitely looks more stylish from the car it replaces and the interior is better than most of the rivals it is still a very dull car on the outside, especially when put beside the new Mazda 6, new Mondeo or the new Honda Accord which is coming out in September. Although they did make some slight cosmetic changes in late 2006 which does make the car look slightly better. The car is a good handling car and safe with all these safety features and traction control but it just feels a bit boring to drive sometimes. Having said that though, after driving Vauxhalls, which is what I usually get lumbered with when I get a courtesy car, then I am always glad to get back into the Avensis, and don't even get me started on the Vauxhalls interior! Not to go off point...!Summary:This car is a safe car. It does everything well but it won't turn any heads and doesn't excel in any particular way, there is no Wow factor about it! If you do a lot of miles and want lots of trouble free miles and aren't too worried about style then the latest Avensis is a great choice. I didn't buy this car but the value should hold better than say a Mondeo or Vectra and is a better built car in my opinion plus there aren't as many about so it is more exclusive. I am due for a replacement soon. With the new version Toyota has clearly upped its game and as well as keeping up with improved Fords and Opels is after more upmarket competition. The general quality and comfort is easily in the Passat standard, and probably also Audi A4 as well. Unless you give a high value to the badge on the front of the car, given that Toyota will also have a superior build quality to these other makes, it's hard to see really convincing arguments in ......racer you don't buy a toyota in the first place. I can't think of any normal driving situation in which you would need more acceleration, unless you are completely mad and overtaking against incoming traffic in an insanely small space. And obviously if you need tons of acceleration and the car doesn't give it to you right away, you just change down a gear. The engine can cope fine with cruising at 140 or 150 kmh, even on very long journeys. Front seat collapsed (I weigh 11Stone), replaced. Has just collapsed again. Rear boot cover fell apart, replaced. Washers have been replaced three times, keep blocking up. Turbo has intermittent ......AC is very poor. I have a black car, AC on as soon as temp gets to about 11C as car gets very hot. It takes twenty minutes for the heating to work properly (our VW TDI takes less than five) Dreadful in a crosswind, frightened passengers on more than one occasion. In terms of performance, there can be a minor lag as with most diesels, but will swiftly deliver you to 60mph in about 11 seconds. The mid range turn of speed between 50-80 is very good which allows it to cruise the motorway very effectively. The car itself has a five star ncap rating, and has a total of nine air-bags, which makes it among best in class. Fuel Consumption - The official fuel economy figures for the 2.2 D-4D 150 6-speed manual are 37.2 mpg (urban), 57.6mpg (extra-urban) and 47.9 mpg (combined) with 156g CO2 emissions per kilometre. I don't recall ever achieving anything like the extra urban figure, as it is not the kind of driving I do , however I easily achieve 45mpg, which I think is acceptable for a car of this size and on budget for what I wanted my car to achieve personally. Servicing and Reliability - the Toyota warranty requires that the car has a full service every 20000 miles and an oil and filter change every 10000 miles. As I had actually done 10000 miles 3 months after acquiring the car last year... helencbradshaw 06.12.2009 · Read review Ciao members have rated this review on average very helpful Review of Toyota Avensis 2.2 D-4D Hatchback 2004 T2 D4D estate Advantages: nice dirve economic Disadvantages: this car could kill you!! ...we bought this car in April 2004, we had the rack and pinion changed after 4 months. the front tyres changed 18,500 miles and at that time we were told there was a serious problem with the wish bone/trailing arm and the car was too dangerous to drive!! at 37,000 (Nov 2006) we had to change the front tyres again and NSR tyre was worn. The dealership said the trailing arm had moved again!!. and in Dec 2006 a warning light appeared on the dash ALL 4 glow plugs needed changing. Toyota customer services said that all cars have problems and they have apologised for any incovenience caused. If i hadn't gone into the dealership because of noise i noticed, i would only have found out about the wishbone when it snapped, while i was driving. Which could have been fatal! The Zafira and the Picassio all did a much better job So Toyota brought out the all new and very impressive Toyota Corolla Verso T2 2.0 D-4D. You can return around 45mpg for daily use with ease, and the tank (according to the onboard range counter) will last you around 430 miles. In terms of performance, there can be a minor lag as with most diesels, but will swiftly deliver you to 60mph in about 11 seconds. The old model Avensis was clearly a competitor for the likes of the Vectra and Mondeo. With the new version Toyota has clearly upped its game and as well as keeping up with improved Fords and Opels is after more upmarket competition. The general quality and comfort is easily in the Passat standard, and probably also Audi A4 as well. Unless you give a high value to the badge on the front of the car, given that Toyota will also have a superior build quality to these other makes, it's hard to see really convincing arguments in favour of shelling out more for what will end up being worse in the long run. I came to this car with high expectations but it has exceeded them all. I used to have an E class Mercedes and it hard to move away from a car like that but I couldn't afford another one and mine was getting old and unreliable. The Toyota was the only other car I found with a such a big boot. I can get a big pushchair, a pile of random junk, a week's shopping and baby paraphernalia in it with no problem. I think it looks great - though the boot does stick out. It is one of the safest cars on the market - it got top marks for in-car passenger and driver safety according to Which (5 stars), though only slightly below average marks for pedestrian safety if you hit one. It neither demands that the world looks at you in awe, nor tells it to watch its mouth because you're a bit dangerous. What it does is quietly suggest, to anyone who feels they'd like to take a moment to listen, that you know quality, you appreciate comfort, you can spot a good deal, and you are happy wearing a smart suit. And, oddly enough, I think the lower the specification level on your Avensis, the cooler you probably are. You're that man or woman in the British Airways magazine, immaculately dressed and quietly sipping coffee in a high-ceilinged hotel room, gazing enigmatically and purposefully out over a European square. The Avensis T2 five-door with the two-litre D-4D turbocharged diesel engine and five-speed manual gearbox is almost the entry model for the range - you can get a 1.8-litre petrol version for about £700 less - but it's far from being spartan. It represents tremendous value for money, coming as it does with a comfortable selection of useful internal equipment and more than adequate accommodation. Parked at the roadside it looks slightly anonymous, functional and solid, and just gently gives off a whisper of class and quality. It looks like it should be worth over 20 grand, but in truth you can own it for a little over 15. The best part of the story is told from the driving seat. The renowned D-4D engine is incredibly smooth and quiet even from a cold start. It pulls away without any hint of clatter and, thanks to the 206lb/ft of torque pumped out from as low as 2000rpm, it just surges out along the road even if that is  winding up the side of a hill. You'll find there's almost no road noise coming up through the springs either, and just the merest whisper from the air passing at greater and greater speeds outside. As with most Toyotas the suspension is nicely tuned, coping with the 1.4-tonne vehicle in a way only dreamed of just five years ago. As you press out along the main A-roads it gives virtually no body roll through the long and sweeping bends, and yet it soaks up every bump and ridge along the flat. Take it out onto the back roads for some spirited testing, and the springs will cushion you through the deepest yumps, catch you off the lumps, and cradle you through the twists and hollows, as if you were the most important thing in the world to it. Perfectly weighted steering puts you exactly where you want to be on the road, whatever the conditions, and the gear change is so ultra-smooth with just a little click into all five gates, that it just begs you to keep playing with it. The disc brakes on every corner are comfortable to use at any speeds, in that they aren't snatchy at low speeds through town, and they're aided in their heavier-duty tasks by a sophisticated anti-lock system with electronic brake distribution to make the best of the available grip.
