Here I am regretfully selling my absolute pride and joy!I have owned this car for just over 2 1/2 years and am just as excited getting in it today, as ...> I was the first day picking it up.Everything about the car is flawless and faultless. It comes with 2 previous owners, although the second owner (lady) only had it for around 3 months and decided it wasn`t for her. So really, I see myself as the second owner from new.It comes complete with FULL Toyota Service History, last service was 14/09/2011 and was the major 60,000 at £300 which included replacing the spark plugs.I have changed the lift bolts on the camshaft as a matter of caution, (not because they needed doing), and have the old bolts that were removed to hand as proof. All documented and carried out by Toyota at a cost of £100.I have also had the Tensioner and belt replaced in August at a cost of £250 which if you research, is the only thing that needs replacing on these cars.Because it has a chain instead of a cam-belt, this doesn`t need to be replaced.Rear brakes and pads were replaced august 2010 costing £260 The Front still have plenty of meat on them.**3 new tyres fitted**I have kept this car completely standard with no silly engine mods or massive sound systems, HOWEVER I have installed a £400 Alpine touch screen head unit with iPod connectivity to make your in car music library more extensive. It also has a £150 Bluetooth connection kit plugged into the back allowing for complete hands free calling through the cars speakers, while your mobile remains in your pocket. (Providing your mobile supports Bluetooth).Original headunit is boxed if the alpine is not to your taste.**Tomtom iPhone unit in picture is not included in the sale**She is cleaned regularly and maintained whatever the cost.6 speed gearboxClimate ControlTrip computerElectric windowsElectric/heated mirrorsFog lightsCelica doors sillsCelica Door matsCelica chair covers x 2 (which have been on for 80% of my ownership of the car, to protect the lovely leather/Alcantara sport seats that have `GT` marked into them).Everything Genuine, no cheap Halfords/eBay rubbish.MOT expires August 2012Taxed until 30/05/2012HPI clear, with my own £30 HPI report I purchased when I bought the car. This is a genuine sale from a genuine enthusiast, and I will be very sad to see her go.Viewing is available on request, but you will have to provide proof of fully comprehensive insurance before getting behind the wheel. No overseas buyers, no tyre kickers and if you are under 25, I will have to drive for insurance reasons unless you can provide a 1 day insurance certificate. The first to see I am sure will buy.If there is anything you think of that I may have missed, please feel free to drop me an email and I will do my best to answer.Mileage WILL go up as I use her on a daily basis to commute to work which reminds me to mention her mileage is mainly motorway as I drive up and down the length of the A27 daily! This is the main reason for sale as a diesel would make more sense. However if I don`t get the right offer, she will continue to drive me to work and back.Anyone who has under 10 feedback, please contact me before putting an offer forward.I will not tolerate time wasters!More pictures are available on request.Thank you for looking.Dan**UPDATE**I have very recently dropped something onto the rear bumper causing a very small dent. Please see picture to see how small it really is.The bumper is made from plastic so will not rust or get worse over time.I have dropped the price by £500 to reflect this. The first time I saw the new car I was undecided about its shape and about whether I liked it. The side profile of the car is far more angular than previous evolutions of the Celica and initially it seemed to be an alien offspring rather than being related to its ancestors! Time passed and every time I saw a new model Celica I would notice something that would catch my eye, and I soon became used to the new shape and started to appreciate the design features and looks of the car. I owned a 1997 model Celica from about the middle of 1999 and in January 2002 I decided that it was time for a change, so where should I start looking, how about the local Toyota garage! It was a damp Saturday morning when I test drove a Celica demonstrator and knew right away that I wasn't going to be looking for anything else. So after a short period of negotiation, when the salesman tried to persuade me that I needed to buy a brand new Celica, he eventually admitted that they had a nearly new car at their other branch about 10 miles away. He arranged for it to be here for me to see the next day, and on a sunny Sunday afternoon I was back to drive the car he had described. Needles to say I was soon signing on the dotted line and the car became mine. My car was registered in June 2001 and had covered just under 6000 miles when I picked it up on February 1st 2002. Engines The new Celica was launched based on one engine, a 1.8 litre with variable valve timing hence the 1.8 vvti model name. The engine produced 140bhp and came with a six speed gearbox feeding power to the front wheels. In December 2000, an alternative 190bhp engine was offered in the Celica. This extra power was obtained by the use of variable valve and lift cylinder head, in which not only the valve timing was variable, but the height of the valve lift increased as engine revs increase. Sounds technical, but it releases another 50bhp from the same capacity engine so it has to be good news. As both cars look identical from the outside, the more powerful engine model is badged as a 1.8vvtli to differentiate between the two cars. Performance and fuel economy Celica's have always been an individual model, and not some variant of a saloon car from the Toyota range so the performance has always been on the sporty side. The 140bhp car has a 0-60mph time of 8.7 seconds, and a maximum speed of 127mph, while the 190bhp car sprints to 60mph in 7.4 seconds and has a top speed of 140mph. The official fuel consumption figures for the two cars are 27.4mpg/45.6 mpg/36.7mpg for the 140bhp car and 24.6mpg/42.8 mpg/33.6mpg for the car fitted with the more powerful engine. Equipment The base car comes with a long list of standard equipment, which includes power steering, electric windows, remote central locking, air conditioning, abs brakes, radio/tape/cd player, height adjustable steering wheel, alloy wheels and 4 airbags. There were also three option packs available, the sport pack, the dynamic pack and the premium pack. The sports pack added 17" alloy wheels (instead of the standard 16" alloys) and a boot spoiler. The dynamic pack added a lower front valance and side skirts, and the Premium pack added leather upholstery, climate control (in place of the standard air conditioning) and an electric sun roof. The car could be specified with any, or all of the packs, from new. Interior Celica's are not saloon cars, and anyone expecting the practicality of a family car will be disappointed. You sit low in the car, and your legs and arms reach out to the pedals and wheels respectively. The adjustable steering wheel and multi-adjustable seats allow a comfortable driving position and the switch gear is well placed. Visibility can seem restricted at first, especially if you are not used to driving a coupe. Space in the rear is limited and it is definitely not a car that can regularly be used by 4 adults. Driving The 140 bhp engine is very responsive and has good acceleration from low revs right up to the 7000rpm red line. (The 190 bhp engine revs even higher but I haven't driven one.) The gearbox lever is ideally placed and gear changes are smooth and fast. The pedals are light to use and the brakes inspire confidence. Handling is good and the car grips well through corners, the suspension is firm but still seems to deal with most roads surfaces well. Conclusions I have owned this car for over two and a half years and it the only thing that has gone wrong in that time was that the front brake discs had to be replaced under manufacturers warranty. Apart from fuel and servicing costs, I had to buy two new tyres when it was two years old and that’s it. The car is very enjoyable to drive, responsive and comfortable, and fuel economy is excellent for the performance available. The 140 bhp car sits in insurance group 13 so isn't too horrendous to insure, and the 190 bhp car is in insurance group 15. The only down side to owning a Celica is the space in the rear and the boot space, it is a coupe and if these are of concern to you make sure you check them out before thinking about buying one. ... less majortomz 29.09.2004 Ciao members have rated this car review on average: very helpful Review of Toyota Celica 1.8 Value for Money Road Handling Comfort Features Fuel consumption Looks Goodbye Celica I will miss you Advantages: A car that turns heads Disadvantages: Slightly underpowered, expensive parts and not really a 'family' car ...an era. I bought my Toyota Celica aged 29, single (recently dumped), but defiant. I'd had Toyotas as a hire car on various jobs and really liked them for their looks and driveability. To start with it is a great looking car, but that’s about it. At: - 60k full service £350 - 61k miles had to get new allow wheels as the old ones were all corroded, so £650 - Pulley and belt at 62k - £240 - 2 weeks later pulley adjusted again as it was making a squeaky noise - 65k new air sensor 250k + labor, - 68k new pulley and belt, so again £100 + £60belt + Toyota labor charges.. + VAT + VAT for the total + VAT after the VAT of the VAT. - 70k engine overheating, local Toyota Garage found that the water pump wasn’t working so they charged me for a new pump, and then later on they said the radiator has a hole in it so it will need replacing = a wonderful £700. - 75k of courses fan belt noise so new pulley + belt. Old ones not covered by warranty as I gave the old parts to the garage, and since I supplied the parts they cannot give warranty…… fair enough so another £120 + £60belt. I asked for the old parts they gave me half of the old pulley. When I asked where is the rest of the part they said they put it on my car …. WTF… so I paid £120 for half of my own part …. - After 2 weeks fan belt noise, took it back to the garage, fixed it on warranty. - One month after fan belt noise, took it back to the garage fixed it on warranty. - Now again fan belt noise and I will need new brakes all around, estimated at 2k by the garage..… - The leather seat will need to be refurbished as they started to wear badly. General comments? The driver uses the car to get to work and back and shopping…. (drives about 10k a year) Although a sport car is not a racing car, so it has never been raced, therefore it has been driven decently and well looked after. I rarely get it into lift mode and never drive it for more than a few seconds at over 6000 revs, also because of the juice it takes. Economy wise not very good, although comparing to other sport cars in its category (190 bhp), it's quite economical. Overall very disappointed with Toyota reliability and ESPECIALLY the garages, …..they are absolutely disgusting, rude and a rip off. For its own sake it never stopped working as I would probably set it on fire at the side of the road. All I can do is to regret buying it, it cost £6.5k to purchase, about the same in repairs and the value has gone down by 50%. 1 comment Fix the spelling and grammar Delete this review Recommended reviews 2001 - Celica VVTi 140 Premium 1.8L VVTi Looks fantastic, good performance, great insurance/running costs for type of vehicle 1999 - Celica ST 1.8 Pretty yet more affordable and practical than most people realize.
