It is well used, not a pampered privately owned car that has been spanked up to sell. Having said that, EVERYTHING on the car works, even the aircon in still nice and cold, no instruments or switches are broken or missing, upholstery is in good condition and without tears or cigarette holes and would improve no end with a valet.The bodywork has had more than its fair share of bumps and scratches - from equipment and parking etc, not accident damage, bumper scuffs also in abundance.So, despite its 211000 motorway miles it`s a super, totally reliable work horse, never let us down ever, runs like a dream, quiet, smooth and quick with no excessive smoke. However, the clutch is showing signs of slipping under load and will need sorting - but not immediately. This is my Corolla D-4D 1.4 Diesel, semi-auto.Mileage is a little high at 117,500.It is for sale as spares or repair due to a clutch problem. The gearbox ...> is the type that is a manual gearbox and clutch controlled by a computer (to make it full auto) and it has a fault code showing a fault with the clutch. The fault code is P0810 which is a fault code for "clutch position control". This happened once before, approx 40,000 miles ago and the Toyota dealer fitted a new clutch and reset the clutch position sensor. I don`t know if the sensor position requires resetting again or if it requires a new clutch as well, 40,000 doesn`t seem very long for a clutch to last if it does?The clutch does not slip at all but the electronics "notice" the fault after driving for a while and refuse to engage gears. If it does this, the car can be left for a little while and then it will, once again behave normally. This means the car can be driven to get it home for the new owner.The condition of the car is quite good, having only a couple of very minor scuffs from shopping trips, however the interior is quite grubby as this is a school run car and I live at a farm.It should clean up quite well with some fabric cleaner as it is general normal use that has made it grubby.The car is quite well specc`d and has aircon, central locking and electric front windows is is absolutly superb on fuel.The car has quite a lot of service history with it but some is missing from early in it`s life. recent history is there mostly from 2008 onwards.The car also had a genuine short engine fitted brand new by Toyota in 2008 due to the car being driven too quickly through a large puddle and sucking some water up the intake. This was paid for by me at a cost of £2500.Tyres are all good and the battery is only a year old.The car has been replaced by a newer one and I find the fault irritating especially if driving in heavy traffic so I am selling "as is" on a spares or repairs basis. Report this review Done 20K miles in this car over the last 12 months, is the 2.2L D4d Estate (tourer) model. I owned a Volvo V70 before this car and this is more refined than my Volvo was on motorway drives, I am aware as the above reviewer that they have excessive noise on the motorway but maybe due to mine being a diesel there is possibly more sound proofing so it's very quiet at motorway speeds. Had a common problem with the 6 speed gears not going into gear easily from cold and felt like the clutch wasn't depressed enough when it was. Because the car was bought from main dealer and had 12month waranty was covered and Garage was very good. If you buy a used model be sure to check the gears from cold, the gearbox always feels a bit notchy and precise (which I prefer) but it should stick feel like a typical toyota gearbox so if it's grinding going into gear on occasions it's most likely to be the gear linkage which needs changing which isn't a big job... I have owned Toyota's for years and never had problems with any of them, the newer ones are great value and if you choose the right engine you can get great performance and fuel economy.... I get around 55-60 MPG which is great, if i do less motorway driving and potter around town I average around 47 MPG I have been very impressed with the Dealer who were very co-operative, it did take me a little to persuade them on one or two matters but once the more experienced mechanics had spent time looking at it the problems were soon resolved. Is a very tough car too and have found the bodywork to be very durable and having looked around at much older models of the same type they still look in excellent condition. I wasn't convinced about this car at first but the more I've owned it the more I've come to appreciate the build quality and design, I don't like ultra modern car designs like the Renaults or other French cars as they tend to date very quick, this one has aged well. So far the vehicle has been reliable and very economic for a car of this size approx 40 mpg and 420 miles from a tank costing £43 approx to fill up. Road noise when motorway driving is greater than similar cars in market especially when on long journeys and knocks the edge and refinement off the experience. Advantages: Looks good. Lots of gadgets. Responsive, quiet engine. Disadvantages: Not very economical for a diesel. The buying process was very long-winded and the dealer seemed more interested in selling me all kinds of insurance and other products, rather than the car itself. And the number of forms I had to fill in and the personal details he wanted was amazing. I thought he was going to ask me the name of my cat the way he was prying! After haggling over price for 4 hours and reaching a staIemate, I went away to think about it over the weekend and then came back with a much reduced offer of £2,000 less than the previous stalemate price. The dealer quickly dropped £1,500 and we did a deal! Altogether, I got 13.5% off the advertised OTR price and free valets for as long as I own the car (not to mention a bunch of flowers). The car itself has a five star ncap rating, and has a total of nine air-bags, which makes it among best in class. Fuel Consumption - The official fuel economy figures for the 2.2 D-4D 150 6-speed manual are 37.2 mpg (urban), 57.6mpg (extra-urban) and 47.9 mpg (combined) with 156g CO2 emissions per kilometre. I don't recall ever achieving anything like the extra urban figure, as it is not the kind of driving I do , however I easily achieve 45mpg, which I think is acceptable for a car of this size and on budget for what I wanted my car to achieve personally. Servicing and Reliability - the Toyota warranty requires that the car has a full service every 20000 miles and an oil and filter change every 10000 miles. As I had actually done 10000 miles 3 months after acquiring the car last year... helencbradshaw 06.12.2009 · Read review Ciao members have rated this review on average very helpful Review of Toyota Avensis 2.2 D-4D Hatchback 2004 T2 D4D estate Advantages: nice dirve economic Disadvantages: this car could kill you!! ...we bought this car in April 2004, we had the rack and pinion changed after 4 months. the front tyres changed 18,500 miles and at that time we were told there was a serious problem with the wish bone/trailing arm and the car was too dangerous to drive!! at 37,000 (Nov 2006) we had to change the front tyres again and NSR tyre was worn. The dealership said the trailing arm had moved again!!. and in Dec 2006 a warning light appeared on the dash ALL 4 glow plugs needed changing. Toyota customer services said that all cars have problems and they have apologised for any incovenience caused. If i hadn't gone into the dealership because of noise i noticed, i would only have found out about the wishbone when it snapped, while i was driving. Which could have been fatal! The Zafira and the Picassio all did a much better job So Toyota brought out the all new and very impressive Toyota Corolla Verso T2 2.0 D-4D. Transmission *************** The Verso T2 has got a 5 Speed Manual Gearbox and is a front wheel drive veichle. It has the credentials of the perfect company, or come to that, safe and well equipped family car. I used to have an E class Mercedes and it hard to move away from a car like that but I couldn't afford another one and mine was getting old and unreliable. The Toyota was the only other car I found with a such a big boot. I can get a big pushchair, a pile of random junk, a week's shopping and baby paraphernalia in it with no problem. I think it looks great - though the boot does stick out. It is one of the safest cars on the market - it got top marks for in-car passenger and driver safety according to Which (5 stars), though only slightly below average marks for pedestrian safety if you hit one. My experience with the T3x D4D is a very good one. The car really does justify the reasonable 16K (approx) price tag, as I fail to see any competitor in this price bracket that can offer the superior build quality, unrivalled safety and sheer quality of drive. You can return around 45mpg for daily use with ease, and the tank (according to the onboard range counter) will last you around 430 miles. In terms of performance, there can be a minor lag as with most diesels, but will swiftly deliver you to 60mph in about 11 seconds. The mid range turn of speed between 50-80 is very good which allows it to cruise the motorway very effectively. Usually after 1-2 years your start to hear these annoying little squeaks from somewhere but the Avensis is still like the day I got it. The T-Spirit also comes with all the extras you would expect from a higher spec model, leather seats, sat nav (not that great but okay), automatic wipers (can have a mind of their own sometimes) etc. The estate version is very roomy and easily accommodates 4 large adults. The boot is also large enough to accommodate most objects. Bad points: Style! While this car definitely looks more stylish from the car it replaces and the interior is better than most of the rivals it is still a very dull car on the outside, especially when put beside the new Mazda 6, new Mondeo or the new Honda Accord which is coming out in September. The old model Avensis was clearly a competitor for the likes of the Vectra and Mondeo. With the new version Toyota has clearly upped its game and as well as keeping up with improved Fords and Opels is after more upmarket competition. The general quality and comfort is easily in the Passat standard, and probably also Audi A4 as well. Unless you give a high value to the badge on the front of the car, given that Toyota will also have a superior build quality to these other makes, it's hard to see really convincing arguments in favour of shelling out more for what will end up being worse in the long run. I came to this car with high expectations but it has exceeded them all.
