Toyota Mark X From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Jump to: navigation , search Toyota Mark X (X120) Manufacturer Toyota Also called Reiz Production 2004-present Predecessor Mark II Verossa Class Mid-size Body style(s) 4-door sedan Layout Front engine , rear-wheel drive / Four-wheel drive The Mark X ( Japanese : トヨタ・マークX ) is a mid size automobile created by Toyota for the Japanese market. The Mark X was introduced in 2004 and is manufactured in Kanegasaki, Iwate , Japan . Also sold in China as the Reiz , it is available with either a 253 horsepower (189 kW) 3.0 L or 212 horsepower (158 kW) 2.5 L GR series V6 engine. Both engines offer dual VVT-i ( variable valve timing ) with gasoline direct injection (Japanese models only). The rear-wheel drive models have a 6-speed automatic transmission as standard, and the all-wheel drive models have a 5-speed automatic. The Mark X is the successor to the Mark II which was first introduced in 1968, was known in the North American market as the Corona Mark II starting in 1972 and the Cressida from 1977 to 1992 and was the predecessor to the introduction of Lexus . The Mark X is not pronounced "Mark Ten" but "Mark Ex", though the Mark II is "Mark Two". The Mark X is an alternative to the Toyota Camry for buyers who like the size of the Camry, but prefer a front engine rear drive powertrain with the option to add all wheel drive, which the Camry doesn't offer. The Mark X is a combination of previous Mark II siblings, the sport oriented Toyota Chaser , and the luxurious Toyota Cresta in one vehicle, letting the Camry appeal to buyers who traditionally purchased the conservatively styled and equipped Mark II in the past, repeating an approach previously attempted by the short lived Toyota Verossa that used straight 6 engines, whereas the Mark X uses V6 engines. Both the first and second generation Mark X were manufactured at the Motomachi Plant in Japan. Instead of being based on a modified Supra chassis, the Mark X shares its platform with the Toyota Crown and it's siblings the Lexus GS and the 2nd Generation IS Sport Sedan. The continuation of describing this vehicle as the "X" series is a reference to the first dedicated Mark II platform introduced in 1972. Major changes the Mark series is the engine and footwork. Toyota discontinue the majority of their straight six engines used in the Toyota Verossa , more specifically the JZ series and the G series motor and went to the newly developed GR series motor. Either the 2.5L 4GR-FSE or the 3.0L 3GR-FSE is made available, both pair to a 6-speed sequential automatic transmission. No manual transmission is offered. A first in its class is the rear bumper with integrated exhaust outlet, which later made its way on to the new LS series and the new Crown. New led light for the ceiling runs from the front of the vehicle to the rear creating a "mood" lighting system. The led system is also incorporated into the gear shifter and key area of the vehicle. Minor changes were made in 2006. Mirror mounted turn signals replaces the fender mounted turn signal, and a redesign grille. Mark X with all black interior deleted the wood trim in favor of the brush aluminum trim. A formal introduction of the "S package" which gain the 3-spoke steering wheel and changes to the exterior lip piece. For model year 2007 on Japanese models only, G-BOOK , a subscription telematics service, is offered as an option. This generation continues to be sold in China by the Tianjin FAW Toyota Motor Co. Ltd. as the Reiz (transliterated into Mandarin Chinese as '锐志'). The Reiz is sold as the 2.5S, 2.5V and 3.0V Premium with 2,497 cc 5GR and 2,995 cc 3GR engines. [ 3 ] A new version was released by FAW Toyota in September 2010, with an exterior restyled after the second-generation Mark X. [ 4 ] The Mark X Supercharged version uses the 3GR-FSE engine with a supercharger added. [ 5 ] Power output is 316 horsepower (236 kW) at 6200 rpm and 42.0 kilogram metres (412 N·m; 304 ft·lbf) at 3200 rpm, paired to a 6 speed auto transmission. A limited edition 50th Anniversary Supercharged Mark X was produced with the Vertiga kit. It has chrome ducts and carbon fiber splitters as standard parts. The 250G has all-wheel drive as an option (250G Four). [ 7 ] [ 8 ] [ 9 ] Changes from the X120 generation include the elimination of the exhaust outlet diffuser, 6-speed automatic for AWD models and a return to the hinge design trunk instead of lift support. As with the last generation Mark X, Toyota's in-house tuning company Modellista installed a supercharger on the 3.5L 2GR-FSE motor to create the Mark X +M Super Charger . Power output is 360ps and 50.8 kg-m. [ 5 ] Modellista also produced a non-supercharged version of the Mark X called the Vertiga . As a result, the Tacoma RTR is a “parts bin” build with all but a few components currently available on Toyota products (traction bars and drive-line shaft are the only two non-Toyota parts). The Tacoma X-Runner RTR achieves its performance credentials by dropping in a completely stock, current-generation Tundra 5.7-liter V8 engine into the unmodified engine bay along with a six-speed automatic transmission. A Toyota Racing Development (TRD) Supercharger Kit was added, bringing the SAE certified power stats to 504 horsepower and 550 lb.-ft. of torque. The truck runs on premium gas rather than race fuel. A stock Tundra rear axle, with a 4.3 ratio and 10.5-inch ring gear, was narrowed a total of 5.7 inches to Tacoma rear-track width). A TRD prototype mechanical limited slip differential, designed by Eaton, was added to maximize traction. The truck rides on current generation Tacoma 15-inch styled steel wheels that were modified to 10-inches wide in the rear and wrapped by 30x11.5x15-inch Goodyear Eagle Dragway Specials. The front wheels are 4.5-inches wide and mounted to 28x4.5x15-inch Goodyear Eagle Front Runners. The Tacoma X-Runner RTR was lowered approximately 4.5 inches from stock X-Runner height, and a custom exhaust system was fabricated to include two TRD perforated-chamber mufflers with a 3.5-inch pipe. The only body modification to the X-Runner RTR was the relocation of the exhaust outlet from behind the passenger-side rear wheel to underneath the cab to help maximize rear-suspension compression, which is common in hard launches. The brakes were left untouched from the stock Tacoma X-Runner braking system, and vehicle traction aids are still functional, including ABS, Vehicle Stability Control and traction control. The exterior body panels of the Tacoma X-Runner remain untouched. A silver and red paint scheme applied by Five Axis was inspired by classic low cost but ready-to-race sports cars, including the late 1960s Dan Gurney Cougar XR7-G. The number “95” on the doors signifies the first model year the Tacoma nameplate was sold in the U.S. The Tundra i-Force engine badge was painted on the front fenders to signify the upgraded power plant and is in the same location it would be found on the current Tundra. In classic hot rod style, the hood is adorned with “504 HP” graphics signifying the SAE verified horsepower. Also on the hood, and unique to this build, is a TRD Supercharger graphic featuring a tornado, signifying the forced induction. The side rocker panels feature the X-Runner logo. Inside, all non-essential equipment was removed to make the vehicle as light as possible, including the audio head unit, speakers, air conditioner, power windows, front fog lamps, windshield water bottle, and rear seats. The stock front seats remain but are covered with classic Toyota fabric trim found on 1980s era vehicles. Added interior features include a custom TRD steering wheel, Tundra stock accelerator and brake pedals, and a stock Tundra gated shifter with sport shift mode. A TRD designed removable roll bar was also installed. # # # Toyota Tacoma X-Runner RTR Features • Stock Tundra i-Force 5.7-liter V8 engine with TRD Supercharger Kit – produces 504 HP and 550 lb.-ft of torque • Tundra six-speed automatic transmission • TRD mechanical limited slip differential • Stock Tundra rear axle with a 4.3 ratio and 10.5-inch ring gear narrowed by 5.7 inches to Tacoma rear-track width • Custom fabricated exhaust system including two TRD perforated chamber mufflers with 3.5-inch pipe • Vehicle lowered 4.5-inches • 10-inch wide rear wheels on 30x11.5x15-inch Goodyear Eagle Dragway Specials • 4.5-inch wide front wheels with 28x4.5x15-inch Goodyear Eagle Front Runners • Stock Tacoma X-Runner braking system • Stock body panels • Stock seats with classic Toyota fabric trim • TRD-designed removable roll bar • Custom TRD steering wheel • Tundra stock accelerator and brake pedals • Stock Tundra gated shifter with sport shift mode • Five Axis Classic Silver and Red paint scheme with Toyota branded livery • TRD Supercharger Tornado body graphic Subscribe RSS Alerts Share/Print Share Share this Email this Print this Tool Tip Use these tools to share this page with these popular sites Google Digg Facebook FriendFeed Technorati Diigo Yahoo Spurl Twitter Delicious MySpace NewsVine Stumble It LinkedIn Fark Tool Tip Use this to share this page with your friends by email Loading... A Toyota Prius Generation X? Sounds incongruous… Yes, this is one of the stranger creations of the year. The Prius 10th Anniversary special edition marks a big shift for normally cautious Toyota, but remember this is just a UK edition marking a decade of British sales. The Prius is usually seen as a poster child for the eco-revolt, leading the charge towards the electrification of the car. The 10th birthday Prius keeps the economy mission, but adds a dose of edgy new style. How can the Prius go from squeaky clean to bad boy of the eco-friendly world? Toyota offers a choice of two colours: Pearl White or Astral Black. Both come with smoked privacy glass, and a body kit comprising new 17” multi-spoke alloys and front, side and rear skirts. Happily, the claimed economy figures of the Prius 10th Anniversary special edition are unchanged. CO2 emissions stand at just 92g/km and economy stays at 70.2mpg. The spec matches the top-of-the-line T-Spirit, so comes with sat-nav, rear parking monitors, park assist, Bluetooth connectivity, cruise control and head-up display. One big alteration, however, is the price. The X is limited to 1000 units, and costs £26,150 on the road. Pricey? The regular T-Spirit costs £23,398, while a VW Polo Bluemotion three-door costs £14,445 and is slightly more economical. First deliveries of the Prius 10th Anniversary special edition will find their way to customers in winter 2010. 1 Rate this article... 1 2 3 4 5 Average rating: 2.5 (9 votes) Discuss this Add your comment Sign in You must be signed in to submit a comment. Finally a special edition Prius! It is making me soooo happy that they are giving it a "sporty" bodykit with great big screaming spoilers and alloys just like a very polluting Cayenne or RR Sport. But wait it get's better, they also throw in some "drug dealer style" smoked privacy glass. Yes!! just what any green environmentalist with sandals was waiting for. And that is making me celebrate this special edition as a carnut. Anything to upset the sandal & canvas bag wearing Prius lovers. This calls for celebration! 01 November 2010 11:49 robinstp says RE: Toyota Prius 10th Anniversary special edition (2010) I wonder if manufacturers take ANY notice of what we say? - from the crap they produce with alarming regularity one assumes no! 28 October 2010 18:18 philj says RE: Toyota Prius 10th Anniversary special edition (2010) Why would anybody pay a premium of £2,752 to look this bad? 27 October 2010 15:34 dolomite says RE: Toyota Prius 10th Anniversary special edition (2010) oh no 27 October 2010 13:54 Biram Desai says RE: Toyota Prius Generation X (2010) first official pictures Like Vince Cable in a Saturday Night Fever white suit.
